Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about our role, how we work, or how we support brands across APAC?
Here are some of the topics we are most frequently asked about.
Are you an importer, distributor, or logistics company?
Not directly. We do not own warehouses or delivery infrastructure ourselves.
Instead, we act as a coordinator between suppliers, importers, logistics providers etc. Our role involves helping connect the right partners, facilitating communication between stakeholders, and supporting the smooth execution of international projects, particularly when cultural, technical, regulatory, or language differences are involved.
Although we do not physically handle logistics operations ourselves, we are closely involved in coordinating many related topics, including import requirements, documentation, cold-chain constraints, labeling and packaging compliance, shelf-life requirements, certificates, quality documentation, and local regulatory expectations.
How are you different from a traditional broker?
A traditional broker usually focuses primarily on connecting buyers and sellers. Gourmet Selection’s role goes significantly further than that.
We remain actively involved throughout the development process by supporting distributors, attending trade shows, conducting field visits, sharing market feedback, and helping brands better position and present their products across different APAC markets.
Depending on the project, we may also assist with the creation or adaptation of sales presentations, communication materials, and localized marketing content for different countries and audiences.
Rather than operating on a purely transactional basis, we aim to act as a long-term local partner helping brands build sustainable development across the region, with an approach that is often closer to that of a local extension of the brand than a traditional intermediary.
What categories of products do you specialize in?
Gourmet Selection works with premium food producers, most of them specialized in desserts, pastry, bakery, confectionery.
Our portfolio covers both retail and foodservice formats, including finished and semi-finished products, ready-to-bake solutions, and ingredients for professionals. Much of our expertise lies in frozen products and cold-chain environments, though our portfolio also includes ambient and other temperature-controlled items.
We focus on brands with strong product identity, recognized know-how, regional heritage, or unique expertise. Whether traditional or innovation-driven, the products we represent are selected for their quality, consistency, and relevance to international markets.
Where can your products be found?
Gourmet Selection mainly operates in B2B markets. Our direct customers are typically importers, distributors, retailers, and foodservice operators who then distribute or use the products locally within their own markets.
Depending on the brand and product category, the products we represent may be used by hotels, restaurants, cafés, bakeries, pastry shops, bars, airlines, industrial manufacturers, hospitality schools, cash & carry operators, or specialized baking and pastry supply stores, both physical and online.
If you are a professional interested in a specific product or sample request, feel free to contact us.
Do you work only with French brands?
No. While Gourmet Selection has strong historical roots in French gastronomy, our portfolio also includes selected partners from other parts of Europe and international markets, all chosen for their distinctive food identity.
For example, as global interest in Asian flavors and specialties continues to grow worldwide, we also work closely with selected Asian manufacturers capable of offering high-quality products adapted to international standards and market expectations.
Which APAC markets do you cover?
We work across several Asian and Pacific countries, including Taiwan, Japan, China, Hong Kong & Macau, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines as well as Oceania through markets such as Australia and New Zealand, alongside other countries depending on the project.
Can you help adapt products for specific markets or customer needs?
Yes, depending on the project, supplier capabilities, and production volumes involved.
Many of the producers we work with are able to adapt recipes, formats or packaging to better match local market expectations, customer specifications, pricing targets, regulatory requirements, or seasonal campaigns.
For example, this may include adjustments to ingredients, sweetness levels, alcohol content or portion sizes. In some cases, suppliers can also develop tailor-made or exclusive items for specific projects, particularly when volumes justify dedicated production.
Thanks to our close connection with local distributors, chefs, retailers, and foodservice operators across APAC, we also help provide practical feedback on what may resonate best in a given market.
